MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.


Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel presently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is because of end next April.


The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.


Mr George said "a variety of small companies in Cornwall presently generate income from utilized cooking oil".


He included: "In order to be able to get this sort of market going it does require simply a bit of lift which comes in the form of tax inescapable."


Biodiesel is a mix of traditional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
